The first step in adopting a pet from the Pulaski County Shelter is to fill out an Adoption Application. All potential adopters must be approved before adoption.
Please note: not every application we receive gets approved. Sometimes the animal might not be the right fit for your family or home; sometimes if you are renting, the landlord will not give his/her approval; plus there may be other circumstances.
Now it is time to start looking at our pets available for adoption. We get new pets on a daily and weekly basis. Check back with us often if you are looking for a specific breed of pet.
View a List of pets that are available for Adoption.
Pets that come into the shelter as a stray are put on hold for 5 days, This gives the owners a chance to come find them. After 5 days strays are put up for possible adoption. So if you have recently lost your pet DO NOT search this list to see if your pet is at the shelter. If you are looking for your recently lost pet it is always best to call and visit the shelter in person!
Check your neighborhood. Eighty percent of lost pets are found within a mile of home, so check your local area and speak with your neighbors.
Create a Lost Pet flyer and post it at local animal shelters, coffee shops, dog parks, pet stores, veterinary offices and other businesses. Handout your flyer as you talk to neighbors and friends. Use online resources. Post about your lost pet on social media, and search neighborhood apps and websites like Nextdoor. Hand out your flyer to local businesses that drive your area. ( UPS & FEDEX, Delivery Services, Mowing Services, Towing Companies, Doordash Drivers, Pizza Delivery, etc.)
The Pulaski County Animal Shelter offers numerous services. You may report a Stray Animal or a Problem Animal. You may also turn in an stray or unwanted animal. Information is also made available for local veterinarians and animal hospitals.
